The Galax Furniture and Lumber Co. was the first Furniture Factory in Galax. It was located where later Pollard Mills ( Galax Knitting) was built which later became Wonderknit. Now a vacant lot. The manager was E.W.Dodd, the father of Bobby Dodd, born in Galax on west Grayson street, and later the coach of Georgia Tech Football.
An e-mail I received from a Mr. Howard Coleman, now living in California , but origianlly from Glade Springs VA.
"I am sending you some pictures of which I have many, of the original owner's of the dresser that now is in my son's possession. ;
The tall man in the bib overalls

is my great grandfather John Owens and the little girl in the same picture is my grandmother Katy (granny) Coleman. The picture with the attractive woman holding a child is my great grandmother Miss Ida Warren. The young girl in the lower right of that picture is my grandmother Katy.

We believe that captain owens purchased the dresser for his second wife Miss Ida; and upon her passing in 1960 , her daughter Katy took possesion of the dresser ,and in 1995 when my grandmother Katy passed , my father Howard Sr. (jack) Coleman took possession . My father recently gave the dresser to me to refinish and give to my son Rusty Coleman and his wife Jessica as a gift for the baby Coleman that is due any day now.
Also inclused is some newspaper articles on John Owens who was section foreman on the N and W railroad which was called "old #97" The dresser probably came from Galax to Glade Spring on The "old#97"line in 1908 or 1909 which is the date on the back of the beveled mirror."

Below is a Shipping Label from Galax Furniture to Mr. Owens in Glade Springs VA 1908 or 1909
